Machine learning (ML) is a sub-field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). ML is a vast field of knowledge,
employing different models and techniques in a wide range of applications in quite different domains. In the past years, the use of Neural Networks (NN) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques have raised the interest of the research community, by showing interesting results on different problems and
application. Two well-known applications of these techniques are the ChatGPT and self-driving cars.

In this talk, we will discuss the key concepts about ML and DL techniques as well as their applications to different problems and domains. We overview the main concepts, models and techniques employed in ML-based approaches. A brief historical description of the evolution of AI and ML techniques over the
last few decades is presented. We will analyze some examples of applications that resort to ML and DL techniques to solve specific problems.
