The Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has become an attractive computational technique to simulate complex flows due to its simplicity, in particular, to implement complicated boundary conditions and parallelize. Based on mesoscopic principles (Boltzmann equation), with LBM it is possible to simulate many physical models ranging from relativistic quark-gluon plasma to turbulence in rivers. In this talk, applications of the LBM in Condensed Matter Physics and in industry will be discussed. I will discuss two examples: a semi-classical LBM to simulate the flow of electrons in metals and in graphene and applications of LBM to simulate transport in porous media. Finally, I will discuss my ongoing work at CFTC involving liquid crystals simulations with a hybrid method of LBM and finite differences.
