The breaking of the CP symmetry distinguishes between matter and anti-matter. In the Standard Model of Particle Physics, it is known that the amount of CP violation predicted is insufficient to explain the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. Thus, new sources of CP violation are needed. One of the most popular extensions of the Standard Model is the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). Among other reasons, this theory is popular precisely because the CP symmetry can be spontaneously broken by the vacuum of the scalar potential. In this seminar I will introduce the concpet of symetries and their breaking, both spontaneously and explicitly. I will review known results of CP breaking in the 2HDM and discuss a recent finding: a new type of CP violation in the 2HDM, arising from a peculiar interaction between the scalar and fermionic sectors.
