We shall start by reviewing and motivating the gauge/gravity duality that relates quantum gravity in d+1 dimensional spaces to gauge theories in d dimensional flat space. In the context of the AdS/CFT duality, we shall then study Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) in the limit of small Bjorken x, where the parton distribution functions are dominated by the gluon contribution. Using a simple AdS black disk model we observe the rise of the gluon density inside the target hadron, in agreement with experiments, and we predict an universal ratio between the longitudinal and transverse gluon structure functions in this kinematical regime, that only depends on the growth of the AdS black disk with energy.
