Back in ‘80s, Speedy and Angell reported a sharp increase in the response functions upon supercooling water. Since then, there has been uninterrupted interest (and conflicting opinions) on the peculiar thermodynamics of water. One intriguing hypothesis that is able to rationalize the experimental observationspostulates the existence of a metastable liquid-’liquid transition at deeply supercooled conditions, a region difficult, but not impossible, to explore experimentally. Numerical studies have played an important role in the development of this idea. Old and novel studies supporting the existence of such a critical point will be discussed.
